Steve Jobs uitgeroepen tot mobiele persoonlijkheid van het jaar (MWC 2010)

Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs is de gelukkige prijswinnaar geworden van de Mobile Personality of the Year Award. De prijs werd uitgereikt tijdens Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona. Jobs kwam niet persoonlijk langs om de prijs op te halen en er was ook geen vertegenwoordiger van Apple in de zaal, die de prijs namens Jobs in ontvangst wilde nemen. De prijs werd uitgereikt door de bekende Britse acteur Stephen Fry, die beloofde te zorgen dat de prijs op de juiste plek terechtkwam. Fry noemde Apple tijdens de prijsuitreiking “the elephant in the room”.

Volgens Fry zorgt Apple ervoor dat anderen geïnspireerd worden, de hele ecosfeer past zich aan bij wat Apple doet. Jobs’ collega-CEO Eric Schmidt van Google, die op Mobile World Congress een keynote verzorgde, was ook genomineerd. Verder stonden Mike Lararidis (Research in Motion/Blackberry) en Peter Chou (HTC) op de lijst van genomineerden. Het is voor de 15e keer dat de Global Mobile Awards worden uitgereikt.

In totaal werden er prijzen in 19 categorieën uitgereikt. Het beste toestel was de HTC Hero:
