New GUI is a disaster

I'm a long time Capo user and love the software.... at least, loved it. The new version has a redesigned interface which hides all functions under sub menus. Where everything was just one or 2 clicks away in the previous version, I'm constantly searching where to find what. I even cann't find the zoom bar in this version or volume control which had a prominent placing in the previous version.

New is not alway better. Just my opinion

What if I told you that *zero* clicks were required for most of the functions in Capo?! 🤯

Seriously, though—much of Capo's functionality is accessible from the keyboard. Speed is controlled using the up/down arrows, and the Key can be changed by holding command while pressing the up/down arrows.

Similarly, zoom can be controlled using command =/- keys or by pinch-zooming on your trackpad, and music volume is adjusted by holding the control key and pressing the up/down arrows.

You can easily jump to any of the Control Strips by holding the control key and pressing 1-7. Once you get the hang of things, Capo is super-fast to use!

Loved it. But not there yet.

Great for practice! It’s become my main practice program. Speed and pitch adjustment are fantastic to practice to. The isolation features are very handy to zero in on details.

Bars and tempo indeed aren’t always detected correctly, sometimes the chords aren’t entirely correct, so you have to keep your brain in gear. Still, they are nice aids.

I would like to have a return to start |< button. Plenty of space in the lower bar for some more control. And a way to correct the bars when the program gets it wrong. I would also like the bars with the music line graph and the bars/measures bar to be a bit higher. They’re pretty thin and need good aim.

BTW, CAPO is indeed a bit guitar-focussed. They do not promise any piano specific features in the text above, as one other reviewer said. Nowhere does it say it will do music notation. The six bars at the bottom are guitar strings for tablature notation, not notation bars. I’m afraid pianists will have to make do with chord names. Let’s face it, guitarists need much more help than keyboardists do, don’t they? ;)

Addition after years: The app is still doing its job as it used to, but... It’s been a while and still the “return to start” button is very much missing. Any other app has that! Also the app quite often misjudges the tempo and still gives us no way to influence that. And I just imported a song (in B) and it gives me the chords in C while it shows the key is B in the sideview. What? For the price they currently charge (I got it when it still was around $30) that is not acceptable. At these prices there are more sensible alternatives that have most of Capo’s functions, just a less clean design and no chords. I would miss the spectrogram, but CAPO is still on my machine.

Thank you for you review of Capo 3. We don't have a button for 'return to start' but that's because we have a keystroke for it. If you press ⌘← or ⌘→ you can easily jump to the start or end of the song. Alternatively, you can go to Control > Edit Keyboard / MIDI Controls... and change the keystroke to something else if you prefer.
