I didn’t like it

I found the sound irritating and the content very minimal. I also didn’t think it is enough to build my voice, I would rather use the voice tutor app which I also have. There is the risk that people will strain or force their voices. That’s just my opinion others might really love this. From what I see of Gary Catona I think he would be a wonderful coach but I don’t like this app.

Do not be fooled into buying this crapp

Gary Catona's Voice Builder app is flawed in so many ways, I don't know where to start.

First of all, it's nothing more than an endless series of vocal glides within the interval of a third, in half-note progressions. At least, that is what the piano plays at the start of each exercise. However, the so-called "Neutral Tone Technology" (brought to you as one of the app's special features, which is "always perfect in pitch") glides within the interval of a fourth! What a horrible failure...

Second, Gary Catona's video demonstrations, only demonstrate his own flawed vocal technique: breathy phonation and bizar facial gestures, which can only result in distorted vowel pronunciation, when imitated. Also, the instructions about how to correctly perform the five vowels used in Catona's "system" are totally incorrect, and are absurd for anyone who's even only a little bit familiar with articulatory phonetics. Above that, he performs the exercises leaning back into a comfortable couch, which is no way exemplary of good posture for singing.

Third, the app's tips on vocal technique are just so wrong. The advise to always "sing back", and not worry about vocal cracking, fluttering, tremoring, tickling, or hoarseness (being "normal and expected developments of voice building") are utter nonsense.

Yes, exercising glissandi (within small and large intervals) throughout your range can indeed be very beneficial for your voice. They should certainly be part of your daily vocal regimen. If you need any help with that, I strongly recommend you to look for another app. Don't waste your money on Gary Catona's crapp, unless you don't mind spending a few bucks to have a good laugh. Because it is truly ridiculous!
